Happy Friday, everyone! Today I’d like to talk about my most disappointing makeup purchase to date: the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette. This may seem a little odd since I was just raving about another palette in this collection on Wednesday. Let me start by saying there is nothing wrong with this palette as far as quality goes. It performs just as well as any other Urban Decay palette that I own. It’s just that the color palette doesn’t really speak to me and at $45 (I’m pretty sure it was even more when I bought it last year) it had better sing me a dang opera.

Out of the 12 shades in this palette, I only really like the three on the left (High, DirtySweet, and Radar) and the four on the right (Password, Whiskey, Combust, and Thirteen). However, these are all very neutral and Radar is the only shade that I don’t have something almost identical to in other palettes, and even then I have some that are pretty close. I actively dislike the shade Slanted, it just looks like an 80s prom to me. All the other shades are fine, I guess, I just really dislike shadows that are both dark and shimmery (Dagger, Black Market, and Smoulder). I wouldn’t put a shimmer in my crease and I rarely put dark colors on my lids so I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do with those.

So why did I even buy this, you may be asking? I was very new to makeup at the time and I had heard that the Naked palettes were great for beginners and smoky eyes are … good? Right? Basically, I hadn’t really formed an idea of what my preferences are in makeup yet and I was buying purely off of reputation. One of these days, I’m going to sit down with this palette and learn how to make it work for me. Until then, its staying in the drawer.

What makeup products do you most regret purchasing?
